Michel Shane, ESF Board Chair, produced the documentary film, "21 Miles In Malibu," which premiered at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in March 2023. The winner of eight awards, this film portrays how the Pacific Coast Highway (known as the PCH), which stretches along Malibu's beautiful coastline, has proven to be one of the Earth's deadliest stretches of asphalt.
The film chronicles the lives of some of those affected, including Michel and Ellen Shane, whose thirteen-year-old daughter, Emily, was killed after an enraged driver aimed his car at her on the PCH.
The aim of the film is to inspire awareness, educate, and, most importantly, serve as a call to action for safety measures to save others from the tragedy 59 others have experienced since Emily’s death in 2010.
